Persuasion with endogenous misspecified beliefs

چکیده

We study a two-action, two-state pure persuasion game in which the receiver has non-rational expectations. The sender can add ambiguity to his message by pooling it with other messages. This be likened selective redaction of original message. knows sender’s strategy but not strategy, and uses only former draw inferences from redacted characterize highest probability attainable under these conditions.

Active Learning with Misspecified Beliefs∗

We study learning and information acquisition by a Bayesian agent who is is misspecified in the sense that his prior belief assigns probability zero to the true state of the world. In our model, at each instant the agent takes an action and observes the corresponding payoff, which is the sum of the payoff generated by a fixed but unknown function and an additive error term. We provide a complet...

Persuasion With Motivated Beliefs

Considerable empirical research finds that people derive utility not only from consumption, but also from their beliefs about themselves and the world. Rather than dispassionately updating their views in response to new information, such belief-based utility implies that people at times avoid information and use other strategies to protect their existing beliefs. We present a two-stage model of...

Endogenous Sunspots, Pseudo-bubbles, and Beliefs About Beliefs

We analyze a simple sunspot model that represents a standard securities market without sidebets on an exogenous sunspot event. The multiple self–fulfilling equilibria that arise in the model are based on investors’ uncertainty about other investors’ beliefs. Hence, these multiple equilibria are “endogenous sunspots.” We show that endogenous sunspots can arise even with complete markets to which...

Beliefs, Payoffs, Information: On the Robustness of the BDP Property in Models with Endogenous Beliefs

Neeman (2004) and Heifetz and Neeman (2006) have shown that, in auctions with incomplete information about payoffs, full surplus extraction is only possible if agents’ beliefs about other agents are fully informative about their own payoff parameters. They argue that the set of incomplete-information models satisfying this so-called BDP property ("beliefs determine preferences") is negligible, ...

Concentration of Posterior Distributions with Misspecified Models

Abstract We investigate the asymptotic properties of posterior distributions when the model is misspecified, i.e. it is comtemplated that the observations x1, ..., xn might be drawn from a density in a family {hσ,σ ∈ Θ} where Θ ⊂ IR, while the actual distribution of the observations may not correspond to any of the densities hσ . A concentration property around a fixed value of the parameter is...
